The CBA is a non-profit organization involved in all aspects of the community built field. Our members have developed the special expertise necessary to lead community volunteers to professional results and place equal value on high quality products and the broad involvement of community volunteers. We are committed to promoting the development of the community built process as a professional practice and to educating our members and the public at large.
The organization was formed in 1989 to provide a network for professionals and interested community members, and to offer information, education and training to its members and the general public. The many years of experience our members have in building successful community built projects is a testimony to the effectiveness of this approach. Collectively, our work spans five continents. In fact, for almost 30 years, professionals in the community built field have involved millions of volunteers in thousands of communities, creating successful community built projects!
CBA encourages its members to adhere to the highest standards of design and construction. To continue to educate members and the public, CBA holds biennial conferences and maintains a web site that includes an index to help communities find professionals who will address the needs of their projects as well as provide information to our members.
The goals of our organization are:
- To advocate a thorough understanding of the community-built process to the general public, and to promote the education of individuals and organizations in methods of community activation and volunteer management.
- To further the theory and practice of involving volunteers in the design, organization and creation of community projects that reshape the physical environment.
- To promote the further development of the community built process as a legitimate professional practice; to promote and facilitate communication among members of the community built profession in order to encourage professional growth, share ideas and knowledge, provide opportunities for collaboration, and resolve issues of common concern.
- To affirm that diverse backgrounds are essential to the richness of life and be dedicated to promoting inclusiveness in our organization, our work and the communities we serve.
